The best smart electric toothbrushes
The best smart toothbrush is the Oral-B iO9: its colour screen and 3D tracking give feedback you’ll still use after a month. For Sonicare fans, the 7300 (about $140) adds the app and a charging case; on a budget, the iO5 (about $120).

A smart toothbrush has Bluetooth and an app that shows where you brushed, for how long and how hard. The tracking is genuinely useful for a few weeks; then most people stop opening the app. What lasts is feedback on the brush itself: a pressure light, a timer, a screen. So we favoured brushes that are still good with the app closed.

- Cleaning actionOscillating-rotating with magnetic iO drive
- Pressure warningSmart sensor: red too hard, white too soft, green right
- BatteryAbout 2 weeks
- HeadsiO heads
A colour screen on the handle means you get feedback every morning without your phone. Add 3D tracking across 16 zones, seven modes, the smart pressure sensor and a charging case. The listing we track had no main Amazon offer on October 30, so check the price before you buy. With no iO10 on Amazon US, it’s the top iO there.

- BatteryAbout 2 weeks

Simplest app brush

Quip Rev Smart
- Cleaning actionOscillating-rotating
- Pressure warningNot stated on listing
- BatteryUp to 30 days
- HeadsQuip Rev heads
- Amazon price, Oct 30, 2026about $100
App tracking on a slim oscillating brush with four intensities and a 30-day battery, about $100. New in January 2026. Its listing doesn’t mention a pressure sensor, and genuine heads are easiest to buy from Quip directly.
A Sonicare with a screen

Philips Sonicare Next-Gen DiamondClean 9900 Prestige
- Cleaning actionSonic, Next-Generation, SenseIQ, colour display on the handle
- Pressure warningYes: glows green at the right pressure; SenseIQ adapts power
- BatteryNot stated on listing
- HeadsA3 All-in-One (click-on)
- Amazon price, Oct 30, 2026about $380
The Next-Gen DiamondClean 9900 Prestige (August 2026) puts a display on the handle that maps the areas you’ve covered. It has eight modes and SenseIQ, and costs about $380. It’s new, and early owner feedback is limited, so the original Prestige is the safer premium buy for now.
What the smart features actually do
| Feature | What it does | Worth it? |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure light | Warns when you press too hard | Yes, the most useful feature here |
| Screen on the handle | Shows timer, pressure, mode or coverage | Useful every day |
| Position tracking | Estimates which zone you’re brushing | For a few weeks, to find blind spots |
| App history | Logs sessions and scores | Motivating for some, ignored by most |
| Head replacement reminder | Counts use | Helpful if you forget |
| Camera (Dyson CameraJet) | Views gaps between teeth | Unproven, and not sold on Amazon US |
Do I need the app to use a smart brush?
No. Every brush here works as a normal electric toothbrush without pairing. Plenty of owners pair it for a month to fix their habits, then keep it for the motor and the pressure light.
Privacy, briefly
Brushing apps collect usage data and account details. Most don’t need location access. If you’d rather not share, don’t pair the brush; everything important still works.
How long people actually use the app
Most people open a toothbrush app every day for a few weeks, learn which areas they miss, and then stop. That isn’t a failure. The habit change was the point all along, and once you know you rush the inside of your lower front teeth, you don’t need a phone to remind you every morning. It’s why the iO9’s screen matters more than its app, and why a brush with a visible pressure light (iO3, Sonicare 7300) delivers most of a smart brush’s benefit without a phone.
What a smart brush can’t do
It can’t clean between your teeth, it can’t fix technique you ignore, and it can’t make up for a worn head. It can show you where you miss, warn you when you press too hard, and nag you to replace the head. If you’re buying one, buy it for those three things.
Do I need the app and the sensors?
Most people open it for a week. The models that carry an app are worth buying for the extra modes, the charging case and the quieter drive, and you can treat the tracking as a free extra.
What we checkedThe iO9 maps 16 zones and the 7300 tracks brushing too, but both clean with the same heads and the same motors as the cheaper handles in their own ranges.

How long before the battery dies, and can it be replaced?
Three to five years is the normal range, and on almost every sealed handle the battery is the end of the brush. Nobody sells you a replacement cell, so treat the warranty length as a hint about how much the brand expects it to last.
What we checkedWarranties on the handles here are two years at Oral-B and Philips. Laifen quotes up to 70 days per charge, which means far fewer charge cycles over the same years.

The questions that come up
Sometimes. They help people who rush or miss the same areas, mostly in the first few weeks. They don’t clean better than the same brush without the app.
What is the best smart toothbrush?
The Oral-B iO9, for its handle screen and charging case. The Sonicare 7300 if you prefer sonic.
Does Sonicare have an app?
Yes. Connected models include the 7300, Prestige 9900 and the Next-Gen DiamondClean range.
Is the Oral-B iO10 still sold?
We couldn’t find a current iO10 listing on Amazon US on October 30, 2026.
